One thing I wish FOSS developers realized is that no one is actually happy consuming a cheap knockoff, nobody says Red Cola is better than Coca-Cola. You have to give people a product that is *different*

@julieofthespirits

There is a place for the free knockoff, but my favorite kind of software is the stuff that could never exist under for-profit corporate structures. Too weird. No business model. Configuration knobs only someone utterly obsessed with the problem would create.

Like what if independent music was just singers that sounded like Taylor Swift but weren't as good, and their fans were just like THIS IS THE INDEPENDENT ALTERNATIVE TO TAYLOR SWIFT IT IS THE ONLY ETHICAL OPTION

That would suck so much

Fortunately independent music is full of angry guitar music and rappers with multiple personas

@julieofthespirits I don't know, i'm kind of happy to use a document processor which doesn't upload everything i type to "the cloud" to sell back to me as part of a bullshit generator suite, or an image editor which doesn't drain the colors from my images if i miss a payment on a subscription.
