Philosophy dropout and self-proclaimed synthesist. Handle with care.

This well-educated bloke is telling us how distrust of institutions is disastrous and will be the unmaking of society. Well, how about those same institutions stop betraying our trust for, like, ten years, or something, and then we'll reconsider?

Not far are the times when posting your community updates to siloed social networks will be akin to having them on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the Leopard".

At a certain speed and sunlight angle, the clouds become visibly three-dimensional. Can't see that unless you're flying.

I find that i'm much less disoriented by being in a German-speaking country than i expected to be, and much less than i'm disoriented by dealing with, you know, Germans.

@julieofthespirits I don't know, i'm kind of happy to use a document processor which doesn't upload everything i type to "the cloud" to sell back to me as part of a bullshit generator suite, or an image editor which doesn't drain the colors from my images if i miss a payment on a subscription.

"F*#% this!" makes perfect.

@pluralistic Hold on... Are you actually *endorsing* the application of double standards when the discourse involves Israel? Because that's one of the key demands in the linked paper! It boggles my mind that supposed intellectuals, like the authors of this paper, would defend and promote logical fallacies for any reason. Once you give up intellectual honesty for a "just cause", you are on well your way to lose sight of your cause, or what is just, to begin with.

@alter_kaker What bothers me more is the overabundance of:
* Double standards;
* Ignorance of history; and
* Logical fallacies
In the discourse. And what's most frustrating to me, is that most of those "legitimate criticizers" fall back into full "You Are Bad People" mode the moment you point any of those out.

You can't get filthy rich through clean means.

@mytwobits01
That sounds a lot like something i would say; Does it stem from some of the stimuli from recent days, or is it entirely hypothetical?

Imagine feeling so threatened by your political rival that you end up inventing new laws just so you have something to accuse him of, and corrupting the entire judicial system just to get him on trial. Kafka got nothing on modern politics! He takes a nervous smoke in the corner while taking notes for a new novel.

Honestly, i could do without the daily reminders that there are people who would hate me for simply existing, if only they knew.

In our age of ubiquitous information, not understanding what's really going on is a conscious choice.

Found something resembling poetry from about twenty years ago in a folder on an old disk from four computers ago. Oh, hell no! Into "shred -zu" you go!

"The robber baron who robs you has been generating lots of profit recently. You should invest in them and get a share of the gains!"

A tower defense game, except you're not allowed to kill the invaders and you lose as soon as any of them passes through.

"Achoo!" — "Serves you right!"

One of the fastest ways to teach someone about the futility of violence, is to show them that attacking people hurts. Which is done by violencing the f*#% out of them.

You eat a can of food. You feel uncanny.
