why the Israel ICJ case frustrates me

It is clear as day that Benjamin Netanyahu is guilty of war crimes. His engagement in collective punishment I feel like is very clearly visible. But I fear that the ICJ case against him will have serious hurdles due to the way that antisemitism has been injected into the case from the start.

It concerns me deeply that in the context of South Africa's presentation of the charges, a pretty serious occurrence of antisemitism occurred.

The TL;DR is that when South African Jewish leaders attempted to schedule talk with South Africa's president about rising antisemitism in the country, he met with them and pretty much engaged in textbook dual loyalty tropes.

THEN CITED IT IN THE ICJ FILING. They explicitly filed that they used the meeting as a way to inform Israel of their concerns.... when it wasn't. They engaged blatantly in dual loyalty tropes.

Are you fucking kidding me.

I'm gonna be so pissed off if this causes the case to fully collapse, as it has the very real potential for it to be used as leverage to.

@gavi
"Clear as day"? Are you aware that this man's life has been scrutnized down to the small change for the last twenty years by his haters, and they only managed to get him on trial by inventing a new law and terrorizing a key witness? "I feel" he wouldn't be able to commit an actual crime without it immediately becoming an unstoppable scandal. Are you saying you have access to better news sources than those Israelis have?

why the Israel ICJ case frustrates me

@simon @gavi as an Israeli, it's most likely they have access to better news sources.

Besides Israeli channels actively trying to hide (deprioritize what would've been on the cover page into a small box in the middle of the paper) articles they don't like and to cause mass hysteria, there have been numerous incidents of Netanjahu bribing news sources, and leftist cover of the war is pretty much non-existent. So yes, I'd say they have access to better news sources.

Regardless of that, news channels stream the same news 24/7 since the beginning of the war, and only stream news, reality shows, and 15-minute ad breaks every 10 minutes. Absolutely squeezing the money outta you.

@laxla@tech.lgbt @simon@zombienet.org I’m not Israeli but I do follow Israeli politics and Israeli news as I can. I follow Israeli leftists and gay Israelis and am friends with some as well. I’d say I’m more clued in to how it works than most non-Israelis, and know some of the general trainwreck Israeli politics is.

Bibi has actively demonstrated corruption and has faced numerous protests over it. He’s a shitty leader and is besties with Donald trump for a reason.

why the Israel ICJ case frustrates me

@gavi @simon Israeli politics definitely is a trainwreck. Imagine American politics, add lots of parties, Palestine, a tad of brainwashing, a healthy dose of cultness (Kharedim), the attitude of an Australian reminded of losing two wars to birds, some mass trauma, and of course, lots of gunpowder.

@gavi
You should be more careful when selecting your sources of information, and more careful with your reasoning, that's all i can say.
@laxla

why the Israel ICJ case frustrates me

@simon @gavi relying on Israeli news sources is the least careful you can be.

why the Israel ICJ case frustrates me

@laxla@tech.lgbt @simon@zombienet.org Idk if you're talking to me but I don't rely on Israeli news sources lol

why the Israel ICJ case frustrates me

@gavi @simon I was talking to them, they went "are you saying you have better news sources than Israeli do?" and "be more careful when selecting your sources", implying they themself consider Israeli news sources to be reliable.
